“Your fingerprints are truly all over this play: from its structure and its form to the identities of its characters to even the characters' names. Your feedback consistently raised the stakes of the scenes, aided me in understanding the play's design needs, and helped me clarify what was essential about the play's biggest theatrical moments. I really can't say enough how grateful I am for your many dramaturgical insights throughout our collaboration.”
My work as a dramaturg focuses on new play development and public engagement. I have developed new plays at New Dramatists, Atlantic Theater, Labyrinth Theater, York Theater, The Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, The Hangar Theater, and elsewhere. As a new play dramaturg, I see my role in the room as that of a catalyst, collaborating with playwrights to tell their stories seamlessly and effectively. I also invest in the role of the dramaturg as an audience advocate; in my work developing new plays, I strive to help playwrights finesse their plays to impact audiences with efficacy and power.
This work in audience advocacy extends to my work as a public dramaturg. In devising and implementing public engagement projects, I link playwrights and audiences, even when the playwright is not physically present. I have led talkbacks, symposia, lectures, discussions, and guided theatrical tours at institutions nationwide, including the Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, The Hangar Theater, MCC Theater, and Theater for the New City. At Skidmore College, I have collaborated with our Bridge Experience Program to teach students public dramaturgy practices.
I firmly believe that seeing a play should be the beginning, not the end, of a conversation; throughout my dramaturgical work, my goal is always to deepen these conversations.
